Balls should be handled with care!

The first baseball game that I ever saw in person was the Phillies versus the St. Louis Cardinals. Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith came out of the dugout and did a back flip near second base. At that moment, I wanted to be a shortstop.

I played baseball during middle school and finally had my chance at short. That was until I found out that shortstops couldn't be left handed. My shot came and went that quickly.

That was until my crappy team had the day of its life and found itself up by 20 runs. Our coach took me out of center field (I was the starter and had a great arm) and moved me to short. After a walk, the next batter hit a sharp ground ball to me, I gobbled it up, stepped on the bag, and threw to first for the double play. Unfortunately, the speedy runner beat the throw.

Sounds good huh?

I should add that the day before, at practice, I talked my coach into letting me play short. A line drive was hit my way, I misjudged it, jumped, and felt that ball meet my testicles. After rolling around in the dirt, screaming in pain, my coach came over and told me that is why he had me in center field!

Thus, I feel this girl's pain.
