SNEAK ATTACK

Full disclosure alert: I don't remember the names of anything: album titles, actors, songs, and most of all sneakers. I am a describer and appreciator. For example the grey patten leather Jordan's are my favorite (insert proper sneaker name here). I love the Jordan's that Bugs Bunny wore in Space Jam (insert proper sneaker name here). The pigeon sneakers were cool but I was shitted on by a pigeon while walking to school once and have since sworn death to all pigeons.

Needless to say I don't wait in line for sneakers over night and refuse to click "add to cart" countless times at the stroke of midnight for the newest release.

The sneaker frenzy is at an all time high. So much so that major news outlets and movie studios are capitalizing on over anxious fans decisions to stalk stores for just about anything that comes with laces.

RETAIL THERAPY

$22,000 jackets. $5,000 pants. $2,500 jeans. And the list goes on and on. These items weren't in some RNB divas closet. Instead they belong to "Friday Night Lights," and award winning author Buzz Bissinger. All of this shopping makes me wonder how Buzz finds time to write and how the pen he uses costs. Or if he uses a pencil to off set the price of his clothing.

'The District' Hits Mitchell & Ness

Despite the many changes in fashion over the years there is one thing that has always remained a staple in my wardrobe...athletic wear. Whether it was my Sixers bib when I was 4 months old or my John Elway throwback from high school, I have always managed to rep my team. We recently took a trip to Mitchell and Ness, the most authentic athletic apparel store in existence, to see what could be added to the collection. Take a look at what we found.

Jordan’s Never Looked So Good

There are two things that I wouldn’t mind looking at for the rest of my life...Jordans and attractive women. Leave it to Playboy to give me the best of both worlds. Hugh Hefner’s Bunnies will be ranking the 23 pairs of Mikes on May 31st. Check out the video below. I swear you will agree with me, that Mars Blackmon never looked so good.

Organized Clutter Disorder

For quite some time I have been suffering from a mild case of OCD. No not obsessive compulsive disorder. It’s actually the complete opposite. For the life of me I can’t seem to keep my belongings in order. Sneakers under my bed. Clean dress shirts scattered across the floor. Loose papers and junk mail finding a home wherever they fall. Despite my possessions looking like they have been hit by a tornado, I know exactly where everything is. (my wallet is currently under my bed,on top of a dress shirt, inside a shoe box) Just like the guy in the video below.

Some people are going to look at this video and just see a pile of sneaks that his mom/girlfriend has been telling him to straighten up for the past two decades. I on the other hand see a guy who really has his clutter in order. Without further adieu I bring you the definition of Organized Clutter Disorder.

April Showers Bring.......Accessories

BY: Liz Scudder. The Manager of Matthew Izzo's Center City boutique finds style in all things. From accessories, to shoes, and even furniture. With an eye for merchandise, Liz takes pride in finding style at high end stores as well in the clearance section.

Fun accessories make me happy, like really happy. Accessories can change an entire outfit from day to night, drab to fab and everything in between. The right pair of shoes or the perfect over sized ring can pull an entire outfit together. The accessories you choose totally reflect your mood too. Feeling rock and roll? Throw on a studded cuff and cropped black leather jacket. Feeling whimsical? I've got the perfect headband to match your flirty floral dress. Maybe you're feeling a little nerdy, switch it up with a plaid bow tie and horn rimmed glasses. Now that spring is here I'm excited to break out my spring staples and invest in some new ones!

Channel Winona Ryder a la beetle juice nervous system rhizome cuff. The collection is inspired by the veins in our nervous system.

Jeffery Cambell is simply amazing. This is what Pocahontas would be wearing if she were around today. Available at edgeofurge.com

I think every woman needs a pair of nude pumps. They literally go with everything!
Christian Louboutin Lady Daf for $995

Or keep it under 100 with the Russhh Pump by Steve Madden for $89

Spring jackets are serious business for me. You can never have too many and having some basics are fine but what fun is that?? I'm pumped that trenches are back. I love ones with epaulettes, a pleat in the back and a high collar. Unlike Morty Seinfeld I love when they're belted. A belted trench works on all shapes and sizes, whether it’s cropped or mid thigh length. Brighten up with a bold red or yellow or keep it classic with khaki!

Burberry Prosum short double breasted trench in gaberdine $1,195

Viktor and Rolf Trench Cape $1,155

Macy's $89

Burberry Bonded Cotton Tricotine Single Breasted Trench $2,196

Macy's $68

Varsity Jackets are back for guys, and the updated version is a less boxy, slimmer silhouette and are a great seasonal transition item. Custom-made wool and cowhide logo jacket, $125 at varsityjackets09.com, or try and find one at your local vintage boutique.

I came across these amazing Clark Desert boots in a beautiful new blue hue. Priced well at $92.

I love this Australian wallet brand Cheddar Pockets. Pockets for your paper.Brian card holder.

While this isn't exactly an accessory your skin needs to be kept fresh. The spring/summer is when it is the most exposed. If you use Kiehls Creme de Corps for 10 days straight it makes your skin so smooth and soft!

All Girls (and guys!) need to have at least one eternal scarf. Turns a boring outfit into something a little more pulled together.

This is a 611 distressed leather weekender for men. Whether you're jet setting on holiday to Milan or sitting on a bus back, as a dude you need to have a sick bag. You're an adult. Your book bag ain’t cute anymore. Available at matthewizzo.com

I love the line Duke & Winston and especially the limited addition canvas tote. Simple design and so versatile! The spring 2011 collection is superb. Don't sleep on emerging designer Seun Olubodun and his assistant (and best friend) puppy Duke. It’s also only 10$. Available exclusively at matthewizzo.com

Sun Shades Block The Sun Rays...

One of the best things to shop for online is sunglasses. I remember about five years ago I was on South Street in Philly and saw a sick pair of vintage Porsche aviator sunglasses in one of the stores. When I walked in the store the sales person told me they were $600, but by the time I was about to walk out he was willing to sell them for $250. I still wasn't feeling it, but I didn’t give up on the shades. I love to google shit. When I got home I looked up the sunglasses and found out that back in the 70s and 80s, when you bought a Porsche car, they gave you the sunglasses for free. So realistically, they are free sunglasses. I did more research online and was able to find the same exact sunglasses I wanted for $89. That’s more like it. Now that its spring and the sun is really starting to shine, it’s a good time to find the perfect pair of sunglasses for you. Here are a few cool pairs you might like...

FASHION: Sneaker Fever

Spring weather makes me want to run to the store and buy every cool sneaker in sight. Since Jordan’s are my guilty pleasure, when I came across the video below, I couldn’t find my credit card fast enough. I also couldn’t stop from drooling as I watched some of the most innovative sneakers of all time dance across my computer screen. The only problem that I have is deciding which shoe to purchase. Help a sneaker lover out people….which shoe should I rock?

Black Male Style Pioneers

As Black History Month comes to an end, I want to add some final insight on influential African Americans. GQ along with Street Etiquette came up with a list of "20 Black Style Pioneers." I liked the idea, and came up with my own condensed list of who I think are the Black Male Style Pioneers. The idea of a fashion pioneer is of a person that created and personified not only a trend, but a style. Here's my list:

Before Marvin Gaye, it was always about suits and ties. Marvin made it acceptable to be relaxed, yet fly at the same time. Every day you can run across someone with the vintage denim shirt look thanks to this man.

Miles Davis was one of the most unique jazz musicians to walk the face of the earth. His eccentric style was a direct reflection of the music that he orchestrated.

Before Run DMC, rap artists dressed like rock stars. Run DMC brought the style of the inner city to the stage.

(far right)

Even in a picture with Martin Luther King Jr. civil rights activist Cecil B. Moore’s style stands out above the rest.

Andre 3000 is a textbook example of how to pimp your Prep school uniform. He consistently manages to wear traditional pieces while adding a bit of flare.

Teddy’s style complimented the love ballads he preformed that would make the ladies want to come on over to his place.

You can’t be considered a member of the Rat Pack and not embody coolness. Sammy Davis suits were always smooth with the perfect cut and style as he performed on The Strip in Las Vegas.

Pharrell combines skateboarding and prep, two styles at complete opposite ends of the spectrum, and somehow manages to make them work together.

Talk about “All Black Everything.” Huey Newton displayed his militant views strategically with each article of clothing.

Who’s Your Favorite?

I’ve given you my black male style pioneers. Leave us a comment and let us know who you think should make the list.
